Just some thoughts...

Every day, as I write Poetiquejustis, I pray it will be a blessing to someone.
Today, I hope it is you.

Finding Peace

Until we extends his circle of compassion to all living things
we will not find peace. Albert Schweitzer

The short list?
I have a friend in Costa Rica who takes in injured squirrels

And another who is made sure that the homeless in our town all get a Christmas stockings

There are those I know who work tirelessly
to provide medical care and to fund research for sick kids

And those who provide a safe haven for at risk kids
to get them off the streets
And there are more.... people who are quietly changing lives.
The common thread?

 Arthur Schopenhauer said
Compassion is the basis of morality

Sure looks that way from where I sit
and that's poetiquejustis

Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it.
Hebrews 12:1 The Living Bible

Put On...Put Off

"You may delay, but time will not." ~Benjamin Franklin
It is just a matter of time

That call you have to make

Those words that must be spoken

That road you have to travel

Someone gave me a great perspective on those “inevitables”
It is simply a matter of

What do you gain by putting it off?
Do you need a little push?
The burden gets no lighter as the days pass because it saps your strength
The road ahead only gets darker

If not now....when
are you going to get past the cost
And move on

I think it is time.
and that's poetiquejustis

This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

In the Weeds

What is a weed?
A plant whose virtues have never been discovered
R W Emerson

Buttercups

Dandelions

 Clover
 butterfly weed
Gardening, like life, is finding the beauty
in what you find each day in your garden
and understanding even the "weeds" in life

have a purpose
  and that's poetiquejustis

To every thing there is a season, a time and purpose under heaven
Ecclesiastes 3:1

Short and Sweet

Don't use words too big for the subject.
C S Lewis
Have you ever noticed that the shortest phrases
carry more weight than the longest of speeches?
words like

Or
And when someone says:

and means it!
The tiniest of words can be
or balm to the heart

What a great responsibility we took on
when first we learned to speak!
Keep it short
And keep it sweet

and that's poetiquejustis
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight, My God and My Redeemer
Psalm 19:14

How Much Do You Need?

Find out how much has been given you
and take what you need;
the remainder is needed by others.
Augustine

Sharing

Taking and giving

Saving and passing along

Knowing what you need- and what you need to share

That is a cornerstone of humanity
and that's poetiquejustis
And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
Hebrews 13:16

Let's Get a Little Loony!

Draw a crazy picture
Write a nutty poem
Sing a mumble-gumble song
Whistle through a comb

Shel Silverstein
A Light in the Attic

Sometimes people ask me when I'm going to grow up

I tell them I don't think I will
As I don't see that there's any percentage in it

Grownups think they know everything

But they forget how to play

they are so busy getting things from the world

they forget to put things back in
That does not sound like a lot of fun to me...
How about you?

so today
let's listen to Shel and...

"Do a loony goony dance

across the kitchen floor
Put something silly in the world

That' ain't been there before"
and that's poetiquejustis

The greatest in the Kingdom of heaven
is the one who humbles himself and becomes like this child.
Matthew 18:4

A Real Lease on Life

Service is the rent you pay
for room upon this earth
Shirley Chisholm

Thoughts on paying the "rent" on your life

You can live without ever giving
but your life will be very small
You can live without serving others
but is that really a life at all?
You can take without ever giving
And be concerned with only  you
or you can reach out a hand
and open your heart
before life's rent is due
and that's poetiquejustis
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you,
for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
 Matthew 7:12
