It's going to take some time this time

no matter what I planned

But like the young trees in the wintertime

I'll learn how to bend

Winds of change

They come and they go

I know I am in the eye of a storm 

when all is quiet long  enough 

for me to hear those lyrics

blowing through my mind of their own will

so I try to be strong

by bending a bit to life

when I see the storms are on their

Life Boat

What are the things you want to do

You know you should do 

Just for your soul?

Where are the places

You know you should see

You've wanted to see

-places to go?

Be they near or far

Or as close as your heart

Life is telling you, 

"My friend! Today make a start

from the normal, the ordinary

Is that really you?

GO!

Take just what you love

and your courage with you."

Life Off the Shelf

Every day when I open my eyes now

It feels like Saturday

Taking down from my shelf

All the parts of myself

That I packed away

Little by little

Day by day

the "me" that we set off to become

Can  fade away

We start to believe

That all the "others"

Do it better

And have it all

And then we hide 

back under the covers

As we start upon another day

What are you making time for?

Listen to those things

"you don't have time for"

and then decide

if it just might be time

to make

the time

Along The Way

I was almost 40 before I knew

what I wanted to be when I grew up

Some people  seem to be born

knowing 

 their path in life

Others are not quite so sure

Some stay on the safe side

Other do not

None of that really matters, does it?

What does matter?

Whatever the road

for however long you travel

 do the most you can

 

for as many as you are able

all along the way

Messing Around With Boats

But I hated the idea of building ships

and never going to sea

When my mom was a girl

she lived in Brooklyn 

She would to love 

to go down to the docks 

and  watch the ships move

in and out of the harbor

Perhaps it was because

her family arrived here by sea

or because her mom

grew up in a fishing village in Italy

She never said

When she grew up

she married a Navy man

Sailed to Europe

and was the queen of the cruises

And she also taught me

to build my own ship of dreams

and set sail

to wherever they may lead

I hope I did the same for my kids

and I hope today 

someone does the same

for you
