It was just a pigeon.
A run of the mill pigeon coping with the city just like the rest of us
in the middle of the parking lot looking stunned, and unable to move.
A man stopped his own travel and stooped down to help her.
I never saw that Good Samaritan’s face, but I will never forget his hands as he gently cupped the bird and placed her out of harm’s way until she caught her breath.
That was all she needed- a moment to catch her breath.
These days there are stunned people all around us
Stunned by pink slips in their pay envelopes
By foreclosure notices in the mail
By notices that a loved one has been killed in action
They need a moment to catch their breath.
Now go.
Notice them.
Then
Gently lift them with a word, a smile, or just being there.
And that’s Poetiquejustis.
