To Sing Among the People

I met a young man once who wanted to be a recording artist
But when he was suddenly given  the chance
to showcase his voice and perhaps get a recording contract

He froze

Opportunity knocked
on a day when he was not mentally prepared

He would advise me later to:

"sing among the people, so that you are always prepared"

 on that day when opportunity came to call

He had lost his focus

He was somewhere else mentally

His mind had wandered

When asked about what it took to be a great actor, 
Spencer Tracy said:

Know your lines and don't bump into the furniture.

It is the furniture bumping part that gets us

We take our eyes off the moment and the goal and the positive

and we start bumping in to the clutter in our mind

You know your lines....

so don't bump in to all that mental furniture

and you and opportunity will get along just fine
