The other day, our four year old granddaughter had a small meltdown.
I do not know why
I do not think she knew why
But the best thing for me to do was to sit there, and let her cry
And when she was done,
we walked hand in hand to get some cold water for her face
and some restorative ice cream.
Ah If healing was always that easy or close at hand
Or perhaps it is….
You cannot rebuild New Orleans by yourself,
but you can help to rebuild someone’s self- image
You may not be able to take away all the horrors of war for the thousands who just came home from fighting,
but you can take way the horror of loneliness for someone who thinks no one sees them.
You can sit with someone when they cry
You can help them wash away the tears
You can buy them ice cream.
When the time comes,
You will know what to do.
You always do.
